Icelandic sensation Daði Freyr whose 2020 entry became a viral hit is back for 2021 and we have a song release date!
RÚV revealed that the song with which Daði will participate in Eurovision 2021 will be first presented on March 13 during a Eurovision special of Straumar.
Daði says that he has a lot more ready than he had last year and is aiming for victory: “I don’t see a point in competing if you are not curious whether you can win or not. Although, the main emphasis is on advancing to the finals, so that Iceland can have a great party on Saturday.”
Iceland in Eurovision
Iceland first participated in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1986, missing only 2 editions ever since, in 1998 and 2002. Even though Iceland has never won the Eurovision, they have come second on 2 occasions, in 1999 with Selma’s Out Of Luck and in 2009 with Yohanna’s Is It True. Some of Iceland’s other most memorable entries are Silvia Night’s Congratulations (2006), Greta Salóme’s Hear Them Calling (2016) and Hatari’s Hatrið mun sigra. Daði Og Gagnamagnið were one of the favourites to win 2020 before it got cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
