The United Kingdom’s Eurovision commentator, Graham Norton has spoken out about juggling his usual role as commentator for the BBC and the potential gig of hosting the contest next year.

Speaking to Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby on daytime television show This Morning on ITV, Graham was asked what has been on a lot of people’s lips lately – will he be one of the hosts for Eurovision 2023? Whilst Graham hasn’t entirely ruled it out, he does have some reservations about giving up his beloved commentator role.

“I don’t want to give up the commentating. If I stop commentating, someone else will do it and they might be better than me, and then I’ll lose that job.”

However, Graham is definetley not adverse to making an appearance on the Eurovision stage next year: “Well, I might wonder on and wave, and then run back to my Rabbit hutch and put my ear things on.”

If Graham Norton does end up as one of the hosts for next years contest, he would be the second person to commentate and host the same Eurovision. In 1998, Terry Wogan co-hosted the contest with Ulrikke Johnson whilst still providing commentary for the BBC.

Whilst nothing has been confirmed or denied by the BBC or the EBU regarding the hosts for Eurovision 2023, Graham Norton does have prior experience in hosting Eurovision-related events.

In 2007 and 2008, he co-hosted the Eurovision Dance Contests, (alongside Claudia Winkleman) which took place in London and Glasgow respectively, and in 2015, Graham and Petra Mede hosted Eurovision’s Greatest Hits: The 60th Anniversary Show at the Eventim Apollo in Hammersmith, West London.

Eurovision 2023 will be taking place in either Glasgow or Liverpool. In line with previous Eurovision host city announcements, we could expect to find out the official host city in the coming weeks. No other information about next years contest has been revealed as of yet.
