Armenian singer Hayk “Hayko” Hakobyan, who represented his country at Eurovision 2007 in Helsinki, Finland, has sadly passed away. The singer contracted COVID-19 earlier this month, and had been in a grave condition until his death.
Eurovision fans will remember Hayko as Armenia’s 2007 representative. He brought Armenia into to the top 10 for a second consecutive year with his song “Anytime You Need”.
Hayko had a long and successful career in Armenia. His career started in 1996 when he won first prize in the “Moskva 1996 Festival” in Moscow, Russia. Just one year later, he went on to win first prize in the “Big Apple Festival” in New York.
In Armenia, he has released many singles and albums, and has won a whole host of awards. In 2002, he won “Best Singer”, “Best Project” and “Best Album” at the Armenian Music Awards. He has toured across Armenia, as well as in the United States, giving a solo concert in California in 2003.
