The submission window is now open for 'Chefsache ESC 2025 - Wer singt für Deutschland?...'
That’s right, Germany means business for the 2025 season, with the country’s main broadcasters recently revealing that they will be returning with something new in the lead up to the 69th Eurovision Song Contest in Basel, Switzerland.
Organised jointly by well-known German television producers ARD, RTL and Stefan Raab, it has now been announced that next year’s German national final will consist of a four-night competition format. Following an initial selection procedure, 24 artists will compete in several singing rounds and song disciplines, as well as receiving feedback from Stefan Raab and his team of talented judges during the preliminary rounds of the shows.
The first three exciting shows will be broadcasted live on RTL, with the final of Chefsache ESC 2025 – Wer singt für Deutschland? then being broadcasted live on ARD, organised by NDR. Despite the national final shows being split between two broadcasters, Eurovision fans will be delighted to discover that German Eurovision icon Barbara Schöneberger will be hosting all four shows; a role that she is no stranger to.
Christine Strobl (ARD Programme Director) shared her excitement for this new era in Germany’s Eurovision journey;
“Special events call for special collaborations: I am thrilled to be working together with Stefan Raab and RTL to boost anticipation for Eurovision Song Contest 2025. Eurovision is a unique music show that has TV nations across Europe glued to the screen, uniting Europe for a very special moment – and this is exactly the feeling we want to convey to the German audience on their way to Basel with a great pre-selection.”
Inga Leschek (Chief Content Officer at RTL Germany) also expressed her enthusiasm for Germany’s new national final for 2025;
“What an honour to be part of the Eurovision Song Contest! Side by side with ARD and Stefan Raab, we are dedicating ourselves to the national task of the Eurovision Song Contest and will use the full reach of RTL Germany to find the German star for Basel. We are looking forward to this special collaboration and three great RTL music shows in spring 2025.”
All artists with hopes & dreams of flying the German flag in Basel can register now at raab-casting.de, eurovision.de or rtl.de. Solo musicians and bands are eligible to apply. The closing date for applications is 28 November at 23:59 CET.
At the 68th Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö, Germany was represented by ISAAK with his song Always On The Run. He finished in 12th place in the Grand Final, with 117 points overall.
