Jorge Gabriel and Sónia Araújo were the main hosts with Inês Lopes Gonçalves acting as the green room host for the evening. True to Festival Da Canção style, we were treated to classy performances and traditional Portuguese sounds.
Ten acts performed with a 50/50 mix of jury and televote deciding which five songs will advance to the final on 6th March. Semi-final 2 will take place on 27th February where a further ten acts will compete for the final five spots in the final.
The five songs who made it through to the final were tonight:

This was the 55th edition of the popular song contest that has traditionally been used to choose the Portuguese representative for Eurovision. Last year, Elisa won with the song Medo de Sentir and was due to compete in Rotterdam before Eurovision 2020 was cancelled.
Portugal has competed 51 times at Eurovision since debuting in 1964. The country’s first win came in 2017 courtesy of Salvador Sobral performing Amar Pelos Dois. Portugal will be hoping fortunes at Eurovision improve this year following the last place finish in 2018 and failing to progress out of the semi-final in 2019.
