Irish songwriter, broadcaster and journalist Shay Healy has sadly passed away aged 78.

Shay Healy was born in Sandymount, a suburb of Dublin, in 1943. He started his career as a cameraman for RTÉ, but soon went on to bigger and better things. Throughout his varied career, he has tried his hand at song writing, musical theatre, broadcasting and journalism, among many other things.

Eurovision fans will remember Shay Healy as the song writer for Jonny Logan’s winning entry from 1980, “What’s Another Year?”. It became Ireland’s second Eurovision win, and propelled Logan into stardom. But Logan isn’t the only Eurovision star that he has written for. In 1993, Healy wrote “Edge Of The Universe” for Linda Martin, which went on to win the Castlebar Song Contest.

We would like to send our deepest condolences to Shay Healy’s friends and family during this difficult time.
