The rules for the submissions are the same rules for Eurovision set out by the EBU – all songs must not exceed three minutes, cannot have been performed or released prior to September 1st 2024, and cannot contain any rude, offensive or political lyrics for example.
The broadcaster states that the lyrics of the song can be in either Greek or English. Once the song has been submitted, there cannot be any changes made to the main artist, the lyrics, song title or the language of the song. During the national final, each artist will perform with a backing track, which may contain backing vocals.
For each performance, there can be no more than six people on stage, and they must all be at least 16 years old at the time of the national final. All participants must either be Greek citizens, have Greek descent from at least one parent, or reside permanently in Greece. The composer of the song though can be of any nationality, and can submit up to two songs; however, if the composer is also performing the song, they can only perform one song in the national final.
For Eurovision 2024, Greece was represented by Marina Satti and her song “Zari”. After qualifying to the final she brought Greece back to the left side of the scoreboard for the first time since 2021 as she finished in 11th place with 126 points.
The Greek national final in 2025 will be the first national final for Greece in Eurovision since 2014, which saw Freaky Fortune ft RiskyKidd performing “Rise Up”, that finished in 20th place in the final. From 2015 onwards, Greece has always had an internal selection for Eurovision.
