Estonian broadcaster reveals Eesti Laul 2025 details with a twist to previous years

The Estonian broadcaster has officially announced the details of the popular national final ‘Eesti Laul’. ERR has chosen to stick to using their national selection procedure to determine who will represent the country in Basel next May, however, some big changes have been made to the competition format.

The application window has been officially opened for those interested in submitting their entries to compete at Eesti Laul 2025. This window will remain open until October 21st, with the participants advancing to the competition being revealed on November 8th. The songs in the running to represent Estonia at Eurovision 2025 will then be released before the end of the year on December 6th.

Whereas in previous years the Baltic pre-selection format was made up of one or two semi-finals followed by a Grand Final, fans will be intrigued to learn that the 2025 edition will all be decided in one night with a Grand Final only. The show will consist of 16 songs all competing with hopes to represent their country in Basel next May.

With the Grand Final set to take place on February 15th, once all 16 songs have been performed the top 3 ‘Superfinalists’ will then be determined through the well-known jury & public vote. The winner of Eesti Laul 2025 will then be revealed through a final public vote, and will therefore go on to represent Estonia at the Eurovision Song Contest next year in Switzerland.

At this year’s Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö, Estonia was represented by 5MIINUST x Puuluup with their song “(nendest) narkootikumidest ei tea me (küll) midagi”. Despite sailing through successfully to the Grand Final from Semi-final 2, they finished the competition in 20th place with 37 points overall.

How do you feel about the competition format changing for the 2025 season? Do you like when national pre-selections include semi-finals or do you prefer one big final? Who would your dream Estonian artists be to compete at Eesti Laul 2025? Let us know in the comments below!
