Tonight, Eurosong took place on the Late Late Show on RTE ONE channel with six acts competing to get the ticket to Eurovision 2025. Hosted by Patrick Kielty and with a panel of experts which included, among others, Bambie Thug, Irish representative last year in Malmö, tonight’s national final was a run to get Ireland to fly the country’s flag as high as possible in Basel in the upcoming month of May.
Eurosong’s performers sang in the following running order:
- ADGY – “Run into the night”
- Bobbie Arlo – “Powerplay”
- Reylta – “Fire”
- Samantha Mumba – “My way”
- Niyl – “Growth”
- EMMY – “Laika Party”
After all the performances, the voting sequence commenced with the international jury, giving their points from 2 to 12 points, having the 33% of the final decision. With the same system, the National jury gave their points, and the public completed the remaining 33% to decide Ireland entry for Eurovision 2025. The voting sequence determined the winner, who was Emmy, with her song “Laika Party”, a song that talks about the first dog sent to the Moon, back in 1957. It’s a fresh modern pop song with a very catchy chorus making references to the journey of the little dog called Laika.
Emmy won with the best score of the public vote and also another 12 of the National Jury. The international Jury, respectively, gave the 12 to Samantha Mumba, with Emmy following up with 10 points; this made a final score of 34 points out or 36, which was unreachable for the rest of the participants.
Emmy is a well-known artist for the Eurovision world, having seen her participating in Norway’s Melodi Grand Prix 2021, reaching the Grand Final with her song “Witch Woods”. She will finally have the chance to go to Eurovision representing Ireland with her song “Laika Party”.
Ireland has been one of the most iconic countries in the history of Eurovision, with seven victories to its name, particularly shining in the 1990s. In 2024, Ireland made a fresh choice with a bold and innovative approach, choosing Bambie Thug with their song Doomsday Blue, a modern and unique act that quickly captured the public’s attention, getting the 6th place with 278 points.
