Denmark’s national broadcaster, DR, has officially announced the eight acts competing in the Melodi Grand Prix 2025 (DMGP), the country’s selection event for the Eurovision Song Contest 2025. The grand finale is scheduled for March 1, 2025, at the Jyske Bank Boxen arena in Herning.
Meet the Contestants
Here are the eight artists and their songs vying for the chance to represent Denmark in Basel:
1. Sissal – Hallucination
•Originally from Thorshavn in the Faroe Islands, Sissal now resides in Copenhagen. She has performed at various festivals, lent her voice to a Danish-dubbed Disney film, and even performed for the King of Denmark.
2. Tim Schou – Proud
•Tim was the lead singer of the band A Friend In London, which secured a top-five finish for Denmark at Eurovision 2011 with “New Tomorrow.” After the band’s disbandment in 2015, Tim traveled the world before returning to Denmark to pursue a solo career.
3. Max Ulver – Supernova
•A late bloomer in music, Max learned to play the piano at 25 and later moved to London for music studies. He achieved significant success as a songwriter in Asia, with hits like “Lover” by Chinese superstar KUN, which has over a billion streams.
4. Hervé Toure – ALLEZ ALLEZ
•Despite its French title, this is the only song in this year’s lineup performed in Danish. Hervé has a diverse background, having been a professional footballer in France and an actor at the Royal Danish Theatre.
5. Maria Mathea – Air
•Maria has an impressive resume as a songwriter, having penned songs for various artists, including Poland’s 2023 Eurovision entry “Solo” by Blanka. She has also worked with international acts like Hardwell and Hooverphonic.
6.MARIYA – I Belong To Me
•A singer, songwriter, and dancer, MARIYA made her mark in 2024 on X Factor Denmark. She is now stepping into the DMGP spotlight with her empowering track.

7.Andreas Kruse – Hear My Prayer
•Andreas gained fame by winning X Factor Denmark in 2018 as part of the group Place On Earth. In 2022, he launched his solo career and is now ready to take on DMGP with a song that resonates deeply with personal struggles.

8.Adel the Second – The Unluckiest Boy Alive
Adel will be performing his self-penned song, “The Unluckiest Boy Alive.” The song brings a mix of personal reflection and lighthearted irony, as Oliver Adelborg—performing under the stage name Adel the Second—playfully questions whether he might just be the unluckiest person in the world. Adel the Second is no stranger to songwriting. He wrote his first song at the age of 10, and as a teenager, he made the decision to pursue music as his career. Now, with his participation in DMGP 2025, he’s taking a significant step towards fulfilling that dream.

What to Expect
The Melodi Grand Prix 2025 will be hosted by Stéphanie Surrugue and Sara Bro. Erik Struve Hansen, editor-in-chief and program manager for DMGP, expressed enthusiasm about this year’s lineup, stating:
“We are very happy with the lineup that is in the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix this year. Viewers can start to rejoice – there are 8 strong songs and some terrific singers and performers who will deliver them.”
The event promises a night of diverse musical performances, bringing together Danes across generations to celebrate music.

Denmark has a storied history in the Eurovision Song Contest, with three victories to date. The most recent win was in 2013 with Emmelie de Forest’s “Only Teardrops.” In recent years, Denmark has faced challenges, including a non-qualification in 2024. Fans are hopeful that this year’s DMGP will select a song capable of returning Denmark to the Eurovision final in Basel.
How to Watch
Melodi Grand Prix 2025 will be broadcast live on DR1 and available for streaming online, allowing fans both in Denmark and internationally to tune in and support their favorite acts.
