Croatia to use National Final once again to select their entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2024
With the official Eurovision year kicking off at the start of this month, the excitement & attention has already turned to next year’s Eurovision Song Contest which will take place in Malmo, Sweden on the 7th, 9th & 11th May 2024. The latest country to announce their participation for next year’s contest is Croatia, who have confirmed they will use their national selection process to determine who will represent the country on the biggest stage.
The Croatian broadcaster for Eurovision, Croatian Radiotelevision (HRT) has revealed the latest rules for its national selection, the competition best known as Dora 2024. Artists and song writers can submit their entries from the 15th September, and have until the 30th November 2023 when the application period comes to a close. From all of the applications received, the expert jury will have the tough task to select 28 songs, along with 4 reserves based on the competition process in previous years. Out of the 28 performers only one can be chosen to represent Croatia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2024.
This year’s Dora 2023 was held in early February, so it is expected that Croatia’s national final will be held around the same time again in 2024. At this year’s Eurovision Song Contest in Liverpool, Croatia was represented by the well-known band Let 3 who performed the song “Mama SC!”. Despite many labeling the band as a “novelty act” even before the competiton had begun, Let 3 had an incredible result and won over many Eurovision fans to become one of the most memorable entries at this year’s contest.
Croatia qualified through to the Grand Final from a very tough Semi-Final 1 in Liverpool. Furthmore, Let 3 achieved a satisfying 13th place in the Grand Final with 123 points. Although the jury only awarded Croatia with 11 points (24th place), Let 3 won the public over as they achieved a staggering 112 televote points (7th place).
