Could we be seeing North Macedonia back on the Eurovision stage?
During their latest session of the Programme Council on August 27th, members of the North Macedonian broadcaster MRT held a debate, in which the country’s return to Eurovision was discussed, among many other things.
Ahead of this debate, MRT invited the public to send in their comments and suggestions to the broadcaster regarding the content that they should broadcast, and anything else they may wish to add in relation to the broadcaster. One suggestion that was brought up by many people was North Macedonia’s participation in the Eurovision Song Contest, and potential return for the country, as one member, Ivan Efremovski, mentions:
“North Macedonia’s return to Eurovision is a request from some citizens who contacted the Program Council. Viewers cite this as a positive promotion for the country, Macedonian singers and songwriters, and the high viewership of this music competition. For this purpose, a public debate on this topic should be launched.
Bobi Andanov for North Macedonia?
Back in July, North Macedonia’s Junior Eurovision 2008 representative, Bobi Andonov, expressed his interest in represting his country at the Eurovision Song Contest. Born in Melbourne, Australia to Macedonian parents, he says he has spoken to MRT about competing in Eurovision, stating:
“his is not just a dream, but something I have been planning and seriously thinking about for a long time. I spoke to MRT and expressed my desire, and I am also preparing to return to Macedonia at the beginning of next year. If the country decides to participate, I will be fully committed. I want to give my whole heart.”
North Macedonia’s last Eurovision participation was with Andrea and her song “Circles” in 2022. The country withdrew from the contest in 2023 due to financial difficulties, and have been absent ever since. Whilst it may be too late for North Macedonia to return to the 2026 contest, the 2027 contest might not seem out of reach?
