A year has passed since we saw Chanel win the Benidorm Fest 2022 with the song “SloMo”. Tonight, the competition has returned to the Palau Municipal d’Esports l’Illa in Benidorm and it has given us a memorable show that has ended with four qualifiers with great potential to win the competition: Agoney, Alice Wonder, Fusa Nocta and Megara.

RTVE promised us at the press conference this Tuesday: “It is the most important television show in this country”. And the promise has been true because Benidorm has shone with its own light on the map of Europe. The first semifinal of the Benidorm Fest 2023 has given us nine spectacular performances by the semifinalists artists, in addition to the performances of the three guest artists: Leo Rizzi, Edurne (Eurovision 2015) and Mónica Naranjo, who has also acted as master of ceremonies together with the TV presenters Rodrigo Vázquez and Inés Hernand.

The high level of this semifinal has made us live an exciting moment during the voting, being the following result after combining the public and jury voting:

  1. Agoney – “Quiero arder”: 161 points.
  2. Alice Wonder – “Yo quisiera”: 119 points.
  3. Fusa Nocta – “Mi familia”: 118 points.
  4. Megara – “Arcadia”: 111 points.
  5. Aritz Aren – “Flamenco”: 107 points.
  6. Sharone – “Aire”: 87 points.
  7. Meler – “No nos moverán”: 84 points.
  8. Twin Melody – “Sayonara”. 77 points.
  9. Sofía Martín – “Tuki”: 48 points.

All the details about the voting

The result has been the product of the combination of the vote of the jury and the public: A total of 912 points divided in number at 50% in number of points (456 each of the parts). However, the jury vote is more decisive:

The points of the jury have been announced as a total, however, they represent the union of the individual votes of each member. These votes have followed a pattern similar to that of Eurovision (but without “1 point”): 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10 and 12 points. The jury has been made up of 8 members, three nationals and five internationals, so each artist could receive from the jury a maximum of 96 points in total and a minimum of 16 points.

On the other hand, the audience’s 456 points has been divided into two parts: 228 points have been distributed by a poll jury —a statistical selection of 350 people representing the Spanish population— and the other 228 have been distributed based on the calls and SMS. These points have been distributed in blocks of 13, 15, 20, 22, 25, 28, 30, 35 and 40 points that have been assigned according to the ranking position of each artist in the classification. So, each artist could receive from the audience vote a maximum of 80 and a minimum of 16 points.

As can be verified, in this way, the position in the ranking of the jury is more decisive than the position in the ranking of the public vote. In addition, the bases stipulate that the vote of the jury prevails over that of the public in case of a tie.

The jury have voted as follows:

  1. Agoney – “Quiero arder”: 86 points.
  2. Alice Wonder – “Yo quisiera”: 79 points.
  3. Fusa Nocta – “Mi familia”: 65 points.
  4. Megara – “Arcadia”: 51 points.
  5. Aritz Aren – “Flamenco”: 50 points.
  6. Sharone – “Aire”: 45 points.
  7. Meler – “No nos moverán”: 29 points.
  8. Twin Melody – “Sayonara”: 29 points.
  9. Sofía Martín – “Tuki”: 22 points.
