Ayana will represent The Netherlands at Junior Eurovision 2021

Ayana has been crowned the winner of Junior Songfestival 2021 with her song “Mata Sugu Aō Ne” (See You Soon) and thus, will represent The Netherlands at the upcoming Junior Eurovision Song Contest in Paris on December 19th. With her song title in Japanese, it will mark the first time the language has been heard on the Junior Eurovision stage,

A total of four acts took part in tonights show, with Ayana coming out on top with 33 points. Sh!ne were in second place with 30 points, Melody was third with 28 points and Priscilla finished in fourth place with 26 points.

The show, which was televised live from the RTM stage in Rotterdam was hosted by Romy Montiero and Buddy Vedder. The final results were decided by a kids jury, a professional jury and televoting. Last years winners UNITY were on the kids jury with 2020 finalists Robin de Haas and Jackie & Janae. The professional jury was made up of Emma Heesters, Jeangu Macrooy and Rolf Sanchez. 

The Netherlands are the only country that have taken part in every single Junior Eurovision Song Contest since its debut in 2003. The Netherlands has held Juniorsongfestival to find their representative every year except 2016 and 2017.

The Netherlands have won Junior Eurovision once, in 2009 with Ralf Mackenbach. They have had a further four top five placings in the contest. In 2020, girl group UNITY finished in fourth place with their song “Best Friends”.
