The Slovenian broadcaster has revealed the acts that will be competing in this years EMA Freš, as well as the shows hosts. A total of 24 acts will take part, with just four acts making it all the way to the EMA final.

Two acts will go head to head in duels that will take place every Monday to Thursday for three weeks, starting on November 29th, and finishing on December 16th. The duels will be available to watch on the MMC RTV website.
An online poll will determine which act from each duel will advance to the weekly final that will take place every Saturday. Out of the four acts in this final, an online poll will chose two acts to advance to the EMA Freš final whilst an expery commitee will chose one act to advance.
The weekly finals will be hosted by rapper Arne, singer Eva Boto, who represented Slovenia in Eurovision 2012 and musician Bojan Cvjetićanin, who will also help to analyse and unpack the acts in a webcast.

Between December 20th to 24th, the 15 acts who didn’t make it past their respective duels will have another chance to make it to the EMA Freš final. Each day, three acts will present their songs online, with the top five acts voted for by an online poll advancing to the final.
Once the 14 finalists have been chosen, they will all participate in two seperate televsion shows to be broadcast in January 2022. In each show, two songs will be chosen to advance to the EMA final, with one being chosen by televote and one by an expert jury. These four acts will join 16 established singers in the EMA final, where they will be competing to be crowned Slovenia’s Eurovision 2022 representative.
Slovenia was represented by Ana Soklič in both Eurovision 2020 and 2021. Ana finished in 13th place in the first semi final of Eurovision 2021 with 44 points. In 2021, a special edition of EMA was broadcast, due to Ana being brought back by the broascaster for the 2021 contest after the cancellation of the 2020 contest. The show served as a platform for Ana to reveal her song “Amen”, whilst also celebrating Slovenia’s 60th Eurovision anniversary.
