After sitting out the 2020 contest due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it looks like Portugal could be making a Junior Eurovision return to the 2021 contest. However, at the moment, this remains a rumour, and has not yet been confirmed by the broadcaster.
This news comes after Carla Bugalho, head of delegation for Portugal, joins the Junior Eurovision Song Contest Steering Group, along with French head of delegation Alexandra Redde from France TV, the host country of the 2021 contest.
The Steering Group is an executive committee in which all of its members are in charge of supervising and guiding the Junior Eurovision Song Contest. The group usually meets four to five times a year, to discuss and make decisions on all things Junior Eurovision.
Portugal made their Junior Eurovision debut in 2006. They participated again in 2007 before taking a 10 year break, returning in 2017. Their best result to date is their most recent entry “Vem Conmigo (Come With Me)” sung by Joana Almeida in 2019, finishing in 16th place with 43 points.
