The application period for Melodifestivalen 2021 will run from August 24th. The event will once again elect the Swedish entry to Eurovision Song Contest.
The regulations for Melodifestivalen 2022 are already published on the event’s website. There will be 28 songs in the competition: 14 chosen by a selected jury and 14 are by artists or composers invited or chosen by SVT. The application window will run from the 24th of August to the 17th of September and the announcement of the contestants will be after the 25th of November.
The station admits giving priority to ten songs among those that are in the contest if they have lyrics mainly in the Swedish language. The same melody can be sent with lyrics in different languages, with the SVT deciding in which language it has to be interpreted in case of triumph at Melodifestivalen.
Swedish citizens and foreign composers can submit songs if at least one author is Swedish. The goal is for at least half of the participants to be female.
