NBC has announced it would push the upcoming American Song Contest back to March, eurovision.tv has reported. The decision to push the American Song Contest back to March was made to allow the production team time to handle challenges and concerns caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The American Song Contest is now set to premiere on Monday, March 21 at 8:00PM Eastern time on NBC and air for two hours as part of a primetime extravaganza. The competition will commence over the course of 8 weeks ending on Monday, May 9, just one night before the first Eurovision semi-final.

The American Song Contest will feature performers and acts from all 50 states, 5 U.S. territories, and Washington DC competing for the title of Best Original Song. The host city, presenters, and contestants have yet to be announced.
