ADONXS to wave the Czech flag in Basel!

The Czech broadcaster has internally selected singer-songwriter ADONXS to represent Czechia at Eurovision 2025. He now becomes the third confirmed artist for next years contest, after Theo Evan for Cyprus and Nina Žižić for Montenegro. For ADONXS, it is an honour to perform on the Eurovision stage:

“First of all, I am really happy; participating in Eurovision has always been my big dream. At the same time, I feel a great responsibility to represent a country that has a great recent history in the competition, and which is my home.”

The song that ADONXS will bring to Eurovision 2025 has not yet been revealed, but he has hinted at what style of song we can expect from him in Basel:

“Uncompromising, cheeky, sometimes cinematic and with room for dancing. I have visualised this moment to a large extent and for the last year I have mainly focused on creating new songs, also with the ambition of Eurovision. I applied with several songs, and I am happy that one of them was ultimately successful. I can’t wait to be able to share the song with you.”

The journey to Eurovision

Back in September, Czechia confirmed their participation in Eurovision 2025, but with a new selection process. The broadcaster confirmed that their national final ESCZ, would not be taking place in 2025 to ensure “that we can allocate resources more effectively towards staging and promotion.” It was confirmed that Czechia would chose their representative via an internal selection for the first time since 2017.

Czechia’s internal selection for Eurovision 2025 was comprised of multiple stages, starting from the second half of 2024.Czechia’s Head of Media, Michal Utíkal expalins how the selection process worked:

“The candidates were first decided by a 10-member international jury consisting of 5 professionals from the field of music production and music composers, plus 5 former foreign representatives of Eurovision. The next part was quantitative research with more than 900 respondents from three foreign countries. To ratify the voting result, we conducted another research through a focus group. And ADONXS was the clear winner in all aspects.”

International PR and Comms Manager for Czechia at Eurovision, Ahmad Halloun, has commented further on the selection process for Eurovision 2025 and the appointment of ADONXS as Czechia’s representative:

“We are all pleased that ADONXS came out as the winner. Eurovision has been his dream, and you could see it from our very first meetings – he was one step ahead and ready to work. Now we are all gearing up to deliver the best result for Czechia in the Contest.”

Who is ADONXS?

ADONXS was born Adam Pavlovčin in Mujava, Slovakia in September 1995. He took an interest in singing and dancing from an early age, and subsequently joined a junior dance crew, took singing lessons and began learning the piano. After quitting singing in his teenage years, he focused on dancing instead, performing with professional dance crews.

Adam later rediscovered singing and moved to Prague, where he was classically trained by Opera singer Hana Peckova. He made a living as a freelance artist in Prague for one year ahead of moving to London, where he received a bachelor’s degree in Songwriting and Creative Musicianship at The British and Irish Modern Music Institute (BIMM).

ADONXS wrote his first song, “Speechless Boy”, when he was 18, and released it alonside an official music video. In high school, Adam and his classmates formed the grouo PACE, and they released their debut EP in 2018, “Keeper”. The group played at various music venues across London, at Festivals across the United Kingdom and at Pride events.

Adam moved back to Prague in 2021 to embark on a solo career. His big break came that same year, when he won the seventh season of SuperStar, a joint Czech-Slovak version of of Idols. After the show, he was signed with Warner and began work on his debut album. In May, he released his debut solo single “Moving On” as ADONXS, a name that refers to the Greek God of beauty and desire, Adonis.

The latest Czech Eurovision representative was 24 year old singer-songwriter Aiko, who won the last edition of ESCZ with her song “Pedestal”. She performed in semi final 2 of Eurovision 2024 in Malmö, where she finished in 11th place, just five points away from the top 10.

Eurovision 2025 will take place in Basel, Switzerland on May 13th, 15th and 17th. As confirmed by Czech broadcaster ČT, the live shows of Eurovision 2025 will now be shown on their main channel, ČT 1.
