The Netherlands; country of rain, the kroket and of course world renowned dj’s! As a Dutch citizen myself, I was always a little bit surprised that we haven’t sent any of our world famous dj’s to the Eurovision Song Contest. 2022 could have been the year we did! But as it turns out, Armin van Buuren was rejected to represent The Netherlands in Turin next year.
Let the speculations begin!
This month we are beginning to discover the first Eurovision contestants and songs for the Eurovision Song Contest 2022! And this means we can already hear the rumors of which artists will represent the remaining countries next year!
In The Netherlands there is one name going around in the grapevines; Lakshmi. One that did not make the cut is world famous Dutch dj Armin van Buuren. Who you might know from his songs This Is What It Feels like and Leave A Little Love or his own radioshow and event A State Of Trance.
Or maybe you just know him als the best dj in the DJ Mag Top 100. He won this title 5 times! And in the years he was not number 1, he always made it into the top 5. Pretty impressive if you ask me.
What song was he going to bring?
This year Armin has spent a lot of time in the studio with Dutch singer Jaap Resema, who won X Factor back in 2010. Reesema said the following:
“Armin and I were in the studio to record some songs, without the intention to do so for the Eurovision Song Contest. But suddenly we had a song that we thought was very suitable, then we got the idea to send it in. I think 400 songs were submitted, we heard a week or two ago that the choice fell on someone else. Who that is, is not said of course”.
But just because the song was not selected to represent The Netherlands in Turin next year, does not mean the song will not be published. Reesema and van Buuren told sources that the song will be published in the next year.
About the fact that the song was not chosen, Reesema continues:
“Of course it would have been great to go to Italy, but it is also a good sign that it is now such a tough competition in the Netherlands. The Eurovision Song Contest has become truly prestigious. Who knows if it will ever happen.”
So who will represent The Netherlands in 2022?
As of right now, there is one name in particular going around to represent The Netherlands at the Eurovision Song Contest 2022. And here name is Lakshmi!
Let’s meet Lakshmi! Lakshmi is a 28 year old singer from Wijchen. She gained popularity after her participation in De Beste Singer/Songwriter, a Dutch competition looking for the best singer/songwriter in 2015. After that, she has had numerous TV appearances on one of the most watched talkshows of The Netherlands called De Wereld Draait Door. In 2021 she participated in the popular Dutch gameshow Wie Is De Mol? Which resulted in a growing fanbase.

How will the Dutch representative will be chosen?
So now, we are patiently waiting for the BIG reveal on who will represent The Netherlands in Turin next year! Who will represent the Netherlands in one of the semifinals on 10 or 12 May is a matter for the selection committee of AvroTros. This includes TV commentators Cornald Maas and Jan Smit and radio DJs Coen Swijnenberg and Sander Lantinga. They no longer look first at the artist, but at the song, a method that previously suited Duncan Laurence, among others, who came up with Arcade from scratch in 2019 and turned out to be a golden opportunity.
