Eden Alene, the Israeli representative for Eurovision 2021, has kept relatively silent during the pre-contest season, as far as preview performances are concerned. But now that silence has been broken, as Eden set free a surprise live set (me free [sorry for the puns, I’ll stop now]). The four-song concert was performed in front of a small local audience, and is available to watch and enjoy below:
Just so you don’t feel anxious to know what songs are gonna pop up here, let’s run through the setlist. Eden’s show begins with a soaring performance of Beyoncé’s “Listen” from the 2006 musical movie Dreamgirls. Following that, Eden sets (me free [sorry again]) into full Eurovision mode, with renditions of Eleni Foureira’s “Fuego” and Duncan Laurence’s “Arcade”. The mini-concert ends with a funky acoustic version of Eden’s 2021 entry, “Set Me Free”.
The song choices for the show seems very deliberate, starting from one of Eden’s primary musical influences and moving to a song which famously came second to an Israeli entry at Eurovision 2018, and then the song which won Eurovision in Israel in 2019. Could “Set Me Free” achieve similar success in Rotterdam this year? Would it appear in a semi-fictional movie about a girl group co-starring Eddie Murphy? We’ll have to wait and see.
In the meantime, why don’t you bask in the glory of Eden’s voice, watch the Voxx Verdict for “Set Me Free”, and talk to us about your favorite part of this concert in the comments below!
