Wales and Scotland will not participate in Junior Eurovision 2024

June 24, 2024

Wales and Scotland will not be making an appearance in Spain for Junior Eurovision 2024.

It has been confirmed to Eurofestivales that both Wales and Scotland will not be participating in this years Junior Eurovision Song Contest in Spain. At the present time, no specific reason has been given for their non-participation.

Due to the United Kingdom confirming their withdrawal from Junior Eurovision 2024 over the weekend, this does make both Wales and Scotland eligable to participate, with broadcasters S4C and BBC Alba respectively.

Wales previously participated in Junior Eurovision 2018 in Minsk, Belarus and again in 2019 in Gliwice-Silesia, Poland. Their first representative was Manw who sang “Perta”, finishing in 20th place with 29 points. The following year, Erin-Mai took “Calon yn Cyro” to the contest, where she finished in 18th place with 35 points.

Scotland on the other hand have never participated in Junior Eurovision before. They have, however, participated in the Eurovision Choir in 2019. They were represented by the choir Alba, who sang “Cumha na Cloinne”, “Ach a’ Mhairead” and “Alba”.

The 22nd edition of Junior Eurovision will take place Caja Mágica in Madrid, Spain on November 16th. Despite winning the contest once already in 2004, this year will mark the first time that Spain will host Junior Eurovision. It will also mark the first that Spain will host a Eurovision-related event since 1969.

To date, 11 countries have confirmed their particiaption in this years contest, whilst previous participants Australia and the United Kingdom have confirmed they will not be participating. 2023 participants Albania, Armenia, Georgia and Portugal have yet to make any announcement on Junior Eurovision 2024.
