Eurovision 2022: Pala Alpitour and Piazza Castello will be the setting. The City of Turin has identified the two areas where all Eurovision events will take place. According to Torino Oggi, two temporary structures will be set up for this year’s Eurovision Song Contest: the first one in front of the Pala Alpitour Arena, and the second one in Piazza Castello.

Pala Alpitour Arena

The outdoor area in front of the Olympic arena will be dedicated to the press center. There will be hubs for both work and relax, press conference areas, offices, and a structure for delegations. After the ATP Finals that took place in November 2021, the Pala Alpitour will be reconverted with the installation of 40 soundproof booths dedicated to Eurovision commentators from all the participating countries.

The structure, which was designed to be a real ‘event factory’ in the words of its architect, is completely flexible and modular in its internal structure and in the acoustics. The arrangement of the stands can be modulated thanks to a modern system of mobile and retractable tiers.

Piazza Castello

A stage for shows will be built in Piazza Castello. The stage will have two towers, with nearby dressing rooms and backstage areas. Piazza Castello is Turin’s main square, the heart of the city’s historic centre. It houses the architectural complex of Palazzo Madama and Casaforte degli Acaja, while its perimeter is composed of elegant porticoes built in different periods. In particular, the square branches off into Piazzetta Reale, giving access to the Royal Palace.

"Eurovision will be a great opportunity for our city"

“The timetable is right on schedule, but the emergency due to Covid-19 makes everything more complex. Organising a major event in the midst of a pandemic is not easy,” said Turin’s mayor Stefano Lo Russo. “I am convinced that by taking all the necessary preventive measures we can respect health restrictions. Eurovision will be a great opportunity for our city”.

What can we expect from Turin 2022?

The 66th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest will bring to Turin 41 European delegations, as well as a large audience of press, sponsors, and fans from all over the world. The event will take place on the 2nd week of May, from the 10th to the 14th of the month. Eurovision is the most watched non-sporting event in the world, and according to predictions it will be watched by 100-600 million viewers.

Torino Oggi reports that the effects on the tourism sector are expected to be significant, according to the data from previous editions. Kiev 2017 registered a 37% increase with 60 thousand visitors, 20 thousand of whom were foreigners. Stockholm 2018 also registered positive numbers, with revenues for 36.8 million euros and 38 thousand Eurovision enthusiasts visiting the city.
