Long time Head of Department at NDR, Thomas Scheriber, will be leaving the broadcaster for another role at ARD (Arbeitsgemeinschaft der öffentlich-rechtlichen Rundfunkanstalten der Bundesrepublik Deutschland) within the next year. Thomas has been the Head of Entertainment at NDR since 2007. It is not known who will take over Thomas’ role at NDR yet.
Since his appointment as Head of Entertainment at NDR, Thomas has been a key figure in Germany’s participation at the Eurovision Song contest. He was mainly involved with the contest as well as the numerous different selection formats to choose Germany’s representative between 2008-2020.
Under Thomas’ guidance, Germany was crowned the winner of The Eurovision Song Contest 2010 with Lena’s entry “Satellite”. This was Germany’s second Eurovision win, after Nicole won in 1982 with “Ein Bisschen Freiden”. They went on to score three more top 10 placings, in 2011, 2012 and 2018.
Who do you think would be a suitable successor to Thomas’ position at NDR? What type of music would you like to see Germany send in the years to come? Let us know in the comments section below!
