The 64th edition of Melodifestivalen, which has iconically become a favorite among Eurovision fans to determine Sweden’s Eurovision representative, kicked off tonight with its first show.
The competition, which will also host this year’s Eurovision, began at the Malmö Arena, where six contestants competed. Among them were Smash Into Pieces, who became an icon over the past year, and Lisa Ajax, a Melodifestivalen legend. In the competition, almost all songs were on an equal level as potential finalists.
Following the voting, Smash Into Pieces and Lisa Ajax secured a spot directly in the final, while the duo Adam Woods and Elisa Lindström will compete in a second round of voting after the fifth show.
Last year, Loreen won Melodifestivalen with her song ‘Tattoo’ and then went on to win Eurovision.
