
On Friday, it was announced that 156 songs had found their way to the Estonian national broadcaster ERR for Eesi Laul 2021. Those songs will now be heard by a jury panel, made up of music professionals. In the end, 24 songs will be selected to compete in the semi finals of Eesti Laul on the 18th and 20th of February 2021. ERR will present the 24 selected acts on the 11th and 12th of November and the songs by the beginning of December this year. In just a few days we will know all the competing acts.
The Estonian musician Tomi Rahula said that there is a big variety in the songs by their style and way of their interpretation. The songs include 63 songs in Estonian and songs in other languages like Russian, English, French and Spanish. Tomi Rahula also explained that out of the 156 acts, there are musicians who already had success at the Eurovision Song Contest, as well as newcomers who are completely unknown.
Estonia has made 25 appearances at the Eurovision Song Contest since making its debut in 1994. Estonia intended to debut in the 1993 contest, however, they failed to make it to the final. In 2001 Tanel Padar, Dave Benton and 2XL won the contest with the song Everybody, which brought the contest to Tallin in 2002, where Estonia ended 3rd. Estonia’s Most notable entries include: Leto Svet (2008) Rändajad (2009) and La Forza (2018) Uku Suviste won Estonia’s National Selection Eesti Laul, which has been running since 2009, and was supposed to represent the country in Rotterdam, before the contest was cancelled.
