Ukraine’s broadcaster UA:PBC has confirmed that Ukraine will be participating in Eurovision 2022, due to be held in Italy. However, at the present time, no details have been given about how they will select their entry for the contest.
In recent years, Ukraine has opted for a national final, Vidbir, to chose their singer and song for Eurovision, delivering varying results. In 2020, the band Go_A were crowned the winner of Vidbir with “Solovey”. After the cancellation of the contest, the band was automatically chosen to re-represent Ukraine in Rotterdam in 2021. Their song “Shum” was internally selected by a jury panel.
Sweden are the next country to join the class of Eurovision 2022 in Italy, as confirmed by broadcaster SVT. They will once again use Melodifestivalen as their selection method to chose their singer and song. Further details about Melodifestivalen 2022 are expected to be revealed at a later date.
Christer Björkman, who has been supervisor of Melodifestivalen since 2002, announced that the 2021 edition would be his last as Supervisor. As of 2022, Karin Gunnarsson will replace him as Supervisor of Melodifestivalen. At the present time, it is unsure if Karin will make any changes to Melodifestivalen, or if she will keep everything the same as it currently is.
