The national broadcaster of Luxembourg, RTL have announced they will not make a comeback to the Eurovision Song Contest in 2021 – the 65th edition in Rotterdam.
RTL stated they are currently concentrating on News related content. And furthermore a participation at the Eurovision would be a huge financial strain for the broadcaster. Thus, even though Eurovision fans would love Luxembourg to come back, the country currently has no plans for a return.
Luxembourg is one of the 7 countries that debuted at the first ever Eurovision Song Contest in 1956. Between their debut in 1956 and their last entry in 1993, Luxembourg made 37 appearances. Out of those 37 entries, 5 took the trophy home. The first win was in 1961 with Nous Les Amoureux. France Gall was the second one to win with her song Poupée De Fire, Poupée De Son. 6 years later, in 1972 Vicky Leandros won the contest with Après Toi. Just the year after that in 1973, Anne-Marie David won with Tu Te Reconnaîtras. The latest win was in 1983 when Corinne Hermès sang Si La Vie Est Cadeau. Despite winning 5 times, Luxembourg only hosted the contest four times, in 1962, 1966, 1973 and 1984.
