This summer might be a little different than usual, but Sunstroke Project don’t let it stop them from bringing us another sweaty party-starter. The two-time Eurovision entrants have just released their hot new song, “Shake It,” complete with a fun-filled lyric video.
Following in the footsteps of “Pepperoni,” Sunstroke Project’s earlier single from this year, “Shake It” is a groovy affair dominated by bouncy bass lines and Sergey Stepanov’s signature saxophone sound. Lyrically, the song is an invitation for a lover to get physical, which Sergei Yalovitsky delivers with his smooth vocals and cheeky attitude. The lyric video doesn’t show the band members, but it does include various people dancing, traveling, and generally just having a good time.
“Shake It” is a collaboration between Sunstroke Project and Moldovan producer Fox Banger, and its sultry lyrics were written by Greek songwriter Nikos Sofis. If that last name sounds familiar, it’s probably because Sofis has written entries for several national pre-selections over the past decade, while also working with Eurovision alums like Azerbaijan’s Samra and Belarus’ Litesound.
Sunstroke Project themselves are, of course, no strangers to Eurovision either. They first competed in the 2010 contest alongside Olia Tira with the song “Run Away.” Despite only finishing 22nd, they received massive global attention after the contest when Stepanov’s performance led to the creation of the Epic Sax Guy internet meme. And then, in 2017, the group mounted one of the greatest comeback stories in recent Eurovision history when “Hey Mamma” took Moldova all the way to third place, its best result so far.
