Submissions open for the American Song Contest

Hello Europe! This is America calling!

On 14th May 2021, the Eurovision Broadcasting Union (EBU) confirmed that the American Song Contest will be making its debut in 2022, after reaching a deal with American broadcaster NBC, and production companies Propgate and Universal Television Alternative Studio.

 

Planning of the show is moving forward, with song submissions now open for all US artists. 

The following statement comes from www.americansongsubmissions.com. The website has been setup where interested artists can submit the entry.

“The American Song Contest will feature live musical performances of original songs representing each of the 50 states and the major U.S. territories. Each original song will compete against each other in a LIVE televised event series, with the country watching! From indie to pop, bands to DJ’s, rappers to singer-songwriters, signed or independent! We will showcase an array of original musicians in all genres from across the country. Artists must be 16 years or older – up to 6 members per act. *Must be a legal resident of the United States or U.S. territories.”

 

In a statement on www.eurovision.tv, Executive Supervisor of the Eurovision Song Contest Martin Österdahl said:

“For 65 years the Eurovision Song Contest has connected people far and wide. As owners of this hugely successful format, we have seen how it has found a place in millions of hearts across Europe and beyond. Now we are excited to have found the perfect partners to share this unique competition and its passionate celebration of music and original songs with the American people.”

 

Dates and locations are still to be confirmed, but on the submission website it states that participants should be available between February 11 2022 and April 12 2022, and be able to travel to Los Angeles, California and Atlanta, Georgia.
