Steps are back, and the hits just keep on coming! Hot on the heels of the title track from their upcoming album, What The Future Holds, the band are going back into the past for their next release.
Something In Your Eyes was originally sung by Swedish singer Jenny Silver at Melodifestivalen 2011 where it placed 3rd in Semi Final 1, allowing it to progress through to Andra Chansen (Second Chance), but ultimately knocked out in the first round.
The song, which was written by a team including Thomas G:Son, evokes memories from the early years of Steps, whilst being a perfect counter balance for the modern sound of the first single. And if you listen closely, it also has some very strong ABBA vibes throughout the melody.
Steps have long been on the wishlist for many Eurovision fans, but when asked in an interview recently if Steps would ever compete at Eurovision, Ian “H” Watkins said that whilst he is a big Eurovision fan,
“It is not a song contest. It is a political contest to get back at each other and it’s just not the right place for us.”
We can always dream though!
What do you think of Something In Your Eyes? Would you like to see Steps compete at Eurovision in the future? Let us know in the comments!
