To date, we still do not know which country will organize the next edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. We know Ukraine is very motivated to host the contest. However, in view of the current context, it is possible that hosting will be delegated to other countries, such as the United Kingdom, Sweden or Italy. Spain had also offered, but it seems that they are withdrawing.
On the 13th of June, RTVE president José Manuel Pérez Tornero spoke to the newspaper Faro De Vigo about the possibility for Spain hosting the contest in 2023:
“We don’t want to be left with the mirage of a good result, we’re going to go for a win next time. We were also interested in organizing it, but in the end if Ukraine retires, the BBC will organize it and we are going to split up our strengh.”
José also evokes the creation of Eurovision in Latin America. Adding to this, the desire to redo a more ambitious Benidorm Fest, it seems that RTVE has many plans in place for the next Eurovision season and is therefore unable to take care of the 2023 competition.
So, the next Eurovision Song Contest could be held in Ukraine. However, if this is not possible for the country, the United Kingdom remains the best option according to the EBU. Then, we will have to know which city will host the 67th edition of the competition.
