December 6, 2021

Spain could announce the names of the contestants of Benidorm Fest 2022 this Friday. This was announced by the website, the most important website about Eurovision Song Contest in Spanish language. According to this media, sources from public the Spanish public television (RTVE) have confirmed that presenting the artists this Friday is the RTVE’s plan, but that they have not been able to set the date yet.

What they have been able to confirm is that the 12 artists have already been chosen and they have signed the contract with RTVE. The RTVE Working Group for Eurovision has decided to prioritize the quality of the songs over the names of the artists, looking for attractive and competitive songs for Eurovision 2022. These songs have been chosen from among 886 proposals received, as was announced at the press conference given by the new head of delegation, Eva Mora, the Director of Communication and Participation of RTVE, María Eizaguirre, and the musical advisors of the Benidorm Fest, Tony Sánchez-Ohlsson and J Cruz.

Madness for possible names

As expected, rumors about the contestants don’t stop running through social networks. But, the big surprise among Spanish Eurofans exploded yesterday, when the Spanish media “ESCPlus España” announced the names of 6 artists who could be at the Benidorm Fest through “Euromag”, its streaming on Sundays.

In the streaming, the collaborators explained that they had had access to sources belonging to record companies and some of the Benidorm Fest artists will be: Rayden, Tanxugueiras, Niña Polaca, Varry Brava, Rigoberta Bandini and Azúcar Moreno.

Madness quickly broke out among Eurovision fans in Spain as some of these names have been acclaimed by the public on numerous occasions to go to Eurovision. Without going any further, the song “Figa” by Tanxugueiras was chosen in the largest Eurovision poll made in Spain as the ideal song to represent Spain in Eurovision.

And, although they were not in the fans’ bets, there was also a surprise with Azúcar Moreno. The Salazar Sisters are one of the most successful and experienced duos in Spanish music. They represented Spain in Eurovision 1990 and achieved the 5th position.

Very soon our uncertainty will end and we will know if these sources have been accurate in the information given to Euromag colleagues. Meanwhile, we can only wait for the official announcement from RTVE.
