RTÉ and NRK request review of current televoting system in place in Eurovision.

The Irish and Norwegian broadcasters have contacted the EBU over their concerns about the currentl televoting system in place in Eurovision. They join VRT (Belgium); RÚV (Iceland); Yle (Finland); RTVSLO (Slovenia) and RTVE (Spain) in raising televoting concerns with the EBU. Dutch broadcasters AVROTROS and NPO have also questioned the extent to which the contest still functions as an apolitical, unifying and cultural event.

A spokesperson for RTÉ said they were looking forward to participating in discussions with the EBU and to discuss points made by the contest’s Director in his open letter. Ahead of these discussions though, the Irish broadcaster has requested details of their voting numbers at Eurovision 2025.

A spokesperson for RTÉ has said: “RTÉ has requested a breakdown in voting numbers from the EBU and its voting partner Once… RTÉ looks forward to participating in the discussions and review of last weekend’s 69th song contest.”

Norwegian broadcaster NRK have also contacted the EBU to request a review of the televoting system used in Eurovision. Entertainment editor Charlo Halvorsen has said that NRK is concerned that trust in the voting in the Eurovision Song Contest is being challenged.

“It is serious if there is any doubt that the result of the vote reflects the public’s opinion. We cannot have that. We therefore support a thorough review of the voting system to ensure that confidence in the competition is maintained… The purpose of the review must be to strive for as fair a competition as possible, in line with Eurovision’s intentions and guidelines.”
