| November 30, 2020

Surprise in Poland! The Polish broadcaster TVP has stated that they have not decided on a Eurovision act for the 2021 contest yet. Therefore, Alicja Szemplińska who was supposed to represent Poland at Eurovision 2020 hasn’t been internally picked so far. Countries like Latvia or Iceland who held a national selection for 2020 already internally selected the same act for 2021. Alicja Szemplińska won the Polish Eurovision selection show Szansa na Sukces Eurowizja 2020 and therefore was supposed to represent her country in Rotterdam. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the contest was cancelled.

Alicja performed at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2020 in Warsaw as an interval act with her song Empires which was supposed to compete in the adult version of the song contest this year. Many people expected the announcement of Szemplińska getting nominated for Eurovision 2021 again which unfortunately did not happen. Therefore, the Polish act is still unknown and it is possible that we will see a different artist for Poland next year.

Below you can watch Alicja’s entry for the 2020 Eurovision Song Contest, Empires!

Poland participated in the Eurovision Song contest for the very first time in 1994, achieving an impressive 2nd place with the song To Nie Ja! by Edyta Górniak which is still their best result until now. With a few withdrawals, Poland has participated 23 times so far since their debut. Their last entry to reach the final was Kasia Moś with the song Flashlight in 2017. She finished 22nd in the Grand Final with 64 points.
