PBS opens submissions to find Destiny’s song for Eurovision 2021

The Maltese public broadcaster, PBS, has made a call for songwriters and composers that are interested in creating the Maltese entry for Eurovision Song Contest 2021.

The broadcaster is taking is taking a different approach for next year in the form of a traditional call for songs. They have opened submissions with a post on social media and on the TVM website. The broadcaster haven’t said what type of song they are looking for.

Songwriters and composers are asked to send an email to: submissions@pbs.com.mt to express their interest by Friday 30. October. Those that show their interest to PBS will be sent further information regarding the guideline for the style of the song.

Destiny Chukunyere was set to perform “All Of My Love” for Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest 2020, an uplifting modern soul number with a gospel twist to it. She was selected as Malta’s representative after having won the latest edition of  X Factor Malta.

Destiny is not a stranger to the Eurovision stage as she won the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2015 in Sofia, Bulgaria. She also supported Michela at Eurovision 2019 in Tel Aviv as a backing vocalist for “Chameleon”.

Since Malta joined the Eurovision family in 1971, they’re the only country without a win that has four top three results. in 1992 Mary Spiteri represented Malta, and got third place. 6 years later, in 1998, Chiara sang her song The One That I Love, which also got a third place. Chiara returned to Eurovision in 2005, where she got second place with Angel. In 2009 Chiara returned for the last time with the song What If We, which placed 22nd place. Ira Losco scored 164 points, and a second place with her song 7th Wonder. Ira later returned to the contest in 2016, where she ended up in twelfth place.
