Nottingham City Coulcil have confirmed that the city will not be submitting a bid to host Eurovision 2023.
Despite previously expressing their interest in hosting next years contest, leader of Nottingham City Council, David Mellen, has said that the council carefully considered putting a bid forward, but would now no longer be progessing with it.
“It’s really exciting that Eurovision is coming to the UK and for the country to host such a long-running, well-loved and prestigious international competition on behalf of Ukraine. With a world-class Arena that hosts entertainment superstars and international sporting events, Nottingham’s infrastructure of hotels, restaurants and bars is geared toward welcoming fans from all over the world.”
“Together with local partners, we have carefully considered the criteria which potential host cities are required to meet ahead of submitting a formal application. Unfortunately, despite having a great venue, a vibrant and diverse community and excellent green transport links, Nottingham doesn’t meet the wider capacity requirements for an event of this scale and so, sadly, we have collectively decided not to put forward a bid on this occasion.”
Which city will host Eurovision 2023?
As of now, Aberdeen, Bristol, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, Newcastle and Sheffield have all confirmed they will be submitting a bid to host Eurovision 2023.
Cardiff in Wales and Derry in Northern Ireland have already confirmed that they will not be submitting a bid to host Eurovision 2023, despite expressing their interests earlier on.
Brighton, London, Manchester, Sunderland and Wolverhampton have all expressed their intrest in bidding to host Eurovision 2023, but have yet to confirm their bids.
Earlier this week, it was reported that the shortlist of Eurovision 2023 host cities would be announced on Radio 2 Breakfast on Friday 12th August between between 06:30 GMT and 09:30 GMT.
