North Macedonia’s national broadcaster MRT, has confirmed that the country has withdrawn from the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2020, which is due to be held on November 29 in Warsaw, Poland.
A spokesperson from the management team at MRT has cited the current Covid-19 pandemic as the reason behind the decision to withdraw. Earlier this month, Wales and Australia also confirmed they would not be participating this year for the same reason.
North Macedonia has competed 15 times in the contest, most recently in 2019 where they finished in 6th place, their second best result to date, with Fire by Mila Moskov.
So far 13 countries have confirmed their participation in 2020, including Germany, who are set to make their debut in the contest.
The contest will be held in a television studio in Warsaw, rather than at an arena as in previous years. At the time of writing, a decision has not been made as to which studio it will be.
Are you sad that North Macedonia won’t be present in Warsaw? Do you think any other countries will pull out before November? Let us know in the comments.
