In a post on Instagram, 2016 Armenian representative Iveta Mukuchyan has now announced she was considered to represent Germany in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2021 which will be held in Rotterdam.
Earlier this year Iveta got a call from the German broadcaster that she was voted by the experts without even knowing she was in the voting process. She was excited and so was everyone else.
Later she again received a phone call where they told her she was rejected to participate for the Big 5 country. She was rumouring this was decided because of the current war between Azerbaijan and her country Armenia and the situation in her first attempt in 2016 where she raised the flag of Karabakh during the first semi final. However, in a statement in Kompakt, NDR have stated that the flag incident was not the reason she was rejected, in fact it was due to her already participation in Eurovision for another country.
Iveta already represented Armenia in the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest with her Song Lovewave finishing second in the first Semi-Final and seventh in the Grand Final which is to date the last top ten finish from Armenia.
Armenia debuted in the contest in 2006 with Without Your Love by André, coming in 8th place with 129 points. Armenia’s best results came in 2008 and in 2014 where both Sirusho and Aram MP3 came in 4th place in the contest with Qélé Qélé and Not Alone respectively. In 2020, they were set to be represented by Athena Manoukian with Chains on You. She was set to perform 14th in the 2nd Semi Final prior to the cancellation of the contest.
