NDR have announced a brand new television show that will find one act for Germany's Eurovision 2024 national final.
The German broadcaster has announced that a new television show, Ich will zum ESC! (I want to go to the ESC!) will be taking place in January, with the aim to find one act that will participate in Germany’s Eurovision 2024 national final, Eurovision Song Contest – Das deutsche Finale 2024.
The show will be broadcast on ARD Mediathek and NDR Fernsehen, and will be comprised of six episodes, where aspiring singers / performers will have the chance to perform for Eurovision 2014 winner Conchita Wurst and singer-songwriter Rea Garvey, who will act as coaches for all the participants. Information on the 15 acts can be found here.
All of the participants will eventually be whittled down to a set of finalists who will perform at the live final of Ich will zum ESC! on Thursday 8th February at 22:00 CET. The winner will go on to compete in Eurovision Song Contest – Das deutsche Finale on Friday 16th February.
Conchita Wurst, who won Eurovision in 2014 for Austria, is very excited about this new venture, and how life-changing it could be for the participants: “We offer the participants a unique opportunity. Anyone who has ever experienced the very special flair of the ESC stage will carry this life-changing experience in their hearts forever!”
Irish singer-songwriter Rea Garvey is equally as excited for this new opportunity: “The job as a coach is nothing new for me, but this time it is a particularly exciting challenge. I am very excited to see whether the winner will come from my team. And who knows – maybe we will see each other in Berlin or even Malmö again!”
You can catch the first three episodes of Ich will zum ESC! from January 25th onwards, the fourth episode from January 30th onwards, the fifth episode from February 1st onwards, and the live final on February 8th.
Back in September, the German broadcaster revealed their plans for Eurovision 2024, in the form of new national final Eurovision Song Contest – Das deutsche Finale 2024. It will be broadcast live from Berlin on Das Erste, eurovision.de and ARD Mediathek on February 16th.
This year, Germany was represented by German rock band Lord Of The Lost. With their song “Blood and Glitter”, they finished in 26th place in the final with 18 points. This marked Germany’s second consecutive last place finish at Eurovision.
