Nano is taking us on a new musical journey

| August 28, 2020

Today, Swedish artist and former Melodifestivalen fan-favourite, Nano, has released his new single Drive. This track is already his fifth new song of 2020, having previously released a collection of other singles in March, most notably, the track Förblin, where he collaborated with fellow Swede, Alpis. Despite being fairly inactive on social media (as his Instagram bio states), Nano announced the release on the platform today where in the video itself, he hinted that the new release represented a dark chapter of his past that he is glad no longer a part of his life. Emotionally, he goes on to say that “I did it all for you, my beautiful wife and our loving family, [be]cause with you I want to live my life until the end.”

These powerful words are very much echoed in the song itself. The track’s powerful electronic and R&B-influenced bass along with his deep and powerful voice make the new release very pleasant and striking to listen to. Instrumentally, the song does not change too much throughout but once again, Nano is proving how professional and genuine he is in the music industry.

The song is also very similar to Nano’s long-running passionate and atmospheric musical personality, sharing many characteristics with Hold On and Chasing Rivers, his two Melodifestivalen songs that helped him to a 2nd & 8th place finish in 2017 and 2019 respectfully. The Swedish star, who has Palestinian roots, has previously expressed interest in returning to one of Europe’s favourite national finals after his originally fan favourite 2017 entry lost out in the grand final to the successful Robin Bengtsson. During his return to the Eurovision scene two years later, many expected his second Melodifestivalen to prove very successful, which it did with another grand final appearance in Friends Arena followed by several weeks in the Swedish top 20. With all this success behind him, Nano could be a potential future representative for Sweden at Eurovision.

Sweden at Eurovision

Since making its debut in the 1958 contest, Sweden has taken part in 59 editions. For every edition since 1959 Sweden has used their popular national final format Melodifestivalen. Sweden has 6 Eurovision wins, in 1974, 1984, 1991, 1999, 2012 and Sweden’s latest win was in 2015 with Måns Zelmerlöw’s Heroes. On top of 6 wins, Sweden also has one second place and six three places. Sweden hosted the contest 6 times as well, in 1975, 1985, 1992, 2000, 2013 and 2016. Eurovision 2016 hosts Petra Mede and Måns Zelmerlöw were named the best presenters from 2010-2016. Some of Sweden’s most memorable entries from Sweden include Den Vilda (1996), Hero (2008) and Undo (2014). The Mamas won Melodifestivalen 2020, and were due to sing their song Move in Rotterdam before the contest got cancelled.
