Exciting news from Montenegro!
Earlier in December is was revealed by RTCG that they had received 30 songs from all over the world for their Eurovision 2022 selection. Ten internal jurors have now selected the artist that will represent Montenegro, and the grand reveal of the artist is happening on Monday 4th January on the TVCG morning program!
Montenegro returns to Eurovision following a two year absence from the contest after their withdrawal in 2020 due limited funds being available for the contest. Montenegro was also absent from Eurovision in 2010 and 2011.
It had been planned to create a return of their national final selection show ‘Montevizija’, but this plan was axed last October due to COVID-19 and for financial reasons. The Head of Entertainment for Montenegrin broadcaster RTCG, Ivan Maksimović, said at the time:
“The first reason is related to the costs involved in organizing the competition, and it is a large amount that, for example, can be redirected to other projects. The second reason concerns the Coronavirus pandemic. We do not know what will be and how it will be, so no, we would not like to get into a situation where we are exposed to several months of efforts in that environment and then the competition will be uncertain.”
