Montenegrin public broadcaster RTCG has confirmed that Montenegro will not compete in Eurovision 2023, citing cost as the main reason.

“In addition to the significant costs of the registration fee, as well as the cost of staying in Great Britain – we also faced a lack of interest from sponsors, so we decided to direct existing resources to the financing of current and planned national projects and organizational and program reforms, which entail significant investment interventions in equipment and premises.” They explained in a statement released this evening.

This will not be the first time the Balkan nation has withdrawn from the Eurovision Song Contest. Since their debut in 2007, Montenegro withdrew from both the 2010 and 2011 editions as well as 2020 and 2021. Their best result so far has been 2015’s “Adio” by Knez, who placed 13th in the grand final.
