Melodifestivalen 2021: The comeback of the schlagerdiva

Last week, Dotter got one step closer to “Dotterdam” and the old ladies Eva & Ewa had big success in the contest. On Saturday, we will hear party-pop, rock and the comeback of the schlagerdiva!

Wow, what a big difference compared to the first heat! The hosts Oscar Zia and Anis Don Demina really livened up the atmosphere with their warmth and humour, both in the studio and in the pre-recorded features. That was exactly what we needed!

To the final, not so unexpected, was Dotter, who I think can be our representative in Rotterdam, accompanied by the lip syncing dance talent Anton Ewald. Best of all were of course the lovely, mature women Eva Rydberg & Ewa Roos. With their yodel, humour and key increase, they made me, and many other fans, very happy!

In the third heat, Christer Björkman’s co-host is Jason Diakité, more known as the rapper Timbuktu. They will give us a chance to breathe before the fourth heat with the crazy hosts Pernilla Wahlgren and Per Andersson. More about them next week, so stay tuned!

Charlotte Perrelli, the winner of Melodifestivalen and Eurovision 1999 and Melodifestivalen 2008, will make a comeback, and I’m very optimistic! Instead of a calm song with acoustic guitar (which gained her a bottom placement in Melodifestivalen 2018 with the song “Mitt liv”), this year’s entry “Still Young” is supposed to be “Lots of pop, present time with lots of schlager.” Will Perrelli be able to succeed with schlager in these modern times? It will be very exciting to see!

Unfortunately I think that only men, once again, will go to the final, but I really hope that the super talanted singer Klara Hammarström will have a good comeback after she lost out with “Nobody” last year.

To the final: Emil Assergård and Tusse.

Emil Assergård is a personal favourite for me and I even think that the audience outside the cities have longed to see him in Melodifestivalen. Obviously, songs in Swedish work with humor work this year, which can benefit Assergård.

Tusse is a super talented artist who won Swedish Idol 2019 (and also made an amazing cover of Conchita’s “Rise Like A Phoenix”.) He will give his all on stage with a song that, according to himself, is about “fellowship, freedom and the importance of letting everyone’s voices be heard.”

To The Second Chance: Alvaro Estrella and Mustasch.

After earlier experience, latino party is popular in Melodifestivalen, which benefits the nice singing of Alvaro Estrella, who made it to the final last year with Mendez and “Vamos Amigos”. After Lillasyster’s success in the first heat, the rock is here to stay and Mustasch, one of Sweden’s most popular rock bands, will get lots of votes.

Did you know… that Thomas G:son, one of the song writers behind Charlotte Perelli’s entry, has written the most songs in the history of Melodifestivalen? Among his 60 entries we find, among others, “Listen to your heartbeat” with Friends (Melodifestivalen winner 2001), “Invincible” with Carola (Melodifestivalen winner 2006) and the legendary Eurovision 2021 winner “Euphoria” with Loreen.
