Norwegian broadcaster NRK have revealed that the final of Melodi Grand Prix 2021 saw the highest viewing figures for the show since 2017, with 1.1 million people tuning in.
A total of 1.1 million tuned in to see Tix win the ticket to Rotterdam. Around 1,082,000 people watched the show on television channel NRK1, with a further 28,000 people watching online, meaning the final show garnered a market share of 67.1%. These viewing figures show an increase of around 160,000 compared to the 2020 edition.
Norway’s head of delegation Stig Karlsen has commented on the viewing figures for the show: “It’s awesome. It shows that this is a party people needed. In a somewhat heavy and tender time, this is a music festival that gathers people. We are the big Norwegian music show that brings the whole country together. This year’s Melodi Grand Prix has been the most important ever and has given people joy in a heavy and dark time.”
