Austrian artistic director Marvin Dietmann has been revealed as the person who will stage the Czech Republic’s entry at Eurovision this year.
Marvin has worked on a number of Eurovision songs over the last ten years, and has provided some iconic staging, most famously Conchita Wurst’s winning entry “Rise Like A Phoenix” in 2014. As well as the Czech Republic, he is due to be designing the staging for Blas Cantó’s “Voy A Quedarme” this year.
Speaking in an interview on the official Czech Eurovision Instagram account, ESCZ, Marvin outlined some of the plans for how Benny Cristo’s song will look onstage.
The dramatic kaleidoscope scenography from the “Omaga” video will be replicated live in Rotterdam, with Marvin promising a “colourful and positive” performance. Like the music video, the atmosphere will start more intimately before developing into a busy, crowded stage. Presumably this means that Benny will be bringing a full team of backing dancers, some of which can be seen in the interview with Marvin right here:
As we all know, every country this year will have to prepare a “live on tape” performance of their song in case of travel and Covid restrictions meaning they won’t be able to travel to Rotterdam. The Czech Republic will not be able to afford a full Eurovision setup, but this isn’t necessarily a bad thing; Marvin explains that Benny and his dancers will use the smaller stage in a unique way.
