The Slovenian duo Maraaya recently took a short break from their music career. Thankfully, they are back now with their release of the Slovenian song Drevo (tree). The song is a dedicated to their family life which has been extended during the years thanks to their two children. Maraaya, consisting of the singer Marjetka Vovk and songwriter Raay, are married for several years already and have two wonderful sons. The music video reflects their happy family life in a fully black and white screen. The very emotional ballad emphasises the benefits of a stable family which functions as a “Drevo”, the basis for nature life. Check out their new single:
Maraaya represented Slovenia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 in Vienna, Austria. Opening the grand final with the pop song Here For You, they achieved 39 points in total and finished in 14th position. The song is considered as one of the fan favorites of the year. The duo also were a trendsetter with their massive headphones. In their new music video, Maraaya chose a more sophisticated approach and avoided the iconic headphones here.
After winning the the selection round in 1993, Slovenia debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest for the first time that year. After 1993, Slovenia has only missed 2 contests, in 1994 and 2000. Slovenia has never won the contest, and their best results were in 1995 and 2001 when the country finished 7th. Some of Slovenia’s most memorable entries include Samo Ljubezen (2002), Cvet Z Juga (2007), No One (2011) and Here For You (2015). Ana Soklič was selected to sing Voda at Eurovision 2020, before the cancellation of the contest. Ana has been internally selected for 2021.
