Following the grand finale of Sanremo 2021, Italian public television (RAI) has proposed the winning Sanremo 2021 band, Måneskin, to represent Italy at Eurovision 2021. The group has confirmed their participation at the Eurovision Song Contest today.
Before competing, all contestants are required to tell broadcaster RAI whether they would be willing to represent Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest should they triumph. Not every act says ‘sì’, so the winner of Sanremo won’t necessarily join us in the Netherlands. Although the band had shown interest in going to Eurovision, today they have finally officially confirmed that they will participate in Rotterdam next May.
Måneskin is an Italian rock band from Rome, consisting of lead vocalist Damiano David, bassist Victoria De Angelis, guitarist Thomas Raggi, and drummer Ethan Torchio. The band won the final round of Sanremo with a 40.7% of the total vote (53.5% of the audience votes). In this “finalissima”, Måneskin faced other Eurovision artists such as Ermal Metal (Eurovision 2018) and Francesca Michielin (Eurovision 2016) in a duo with Fedez.
Italy, as member of the Big 5, automatically qualifies for the Grand Final of the Eurovision Song Contest which will take place on 22th May.
