Malta Eurovision Song Contest confirmed for 2022 as submissions open

After confirming that Malta would be returning to a national final to chose their Eurovision 2022 representative, it has now been announced that submissions have opened for Malta Eurovision Song Contest.

The songs submissions window will remain open until December 5th. Once all entries have been reviewed by a panel of judges, a total of 28 will make it to the MESC semi final. 16 songs will then advance to the MESC final. All entries can be submitted here.

All songs must be in accordance with Eurovision rules. They cannot be longer than 3 minutes, and they cannot have been released or performed prior to September 1st, 2021. All performers must be of Maltese nationality, or hold Maltese citizenship, whilst songwriters can be of any nationality.

Malta Eurovision Song Contest was first used as Malta’s national for Eurovision in 2012, and run through to 2018. In 2019 and 2020, X Factor was used to chose Malta’s Eurovision act, with the song being chosen internally.

The show has provided mixed results at Eurovision, with four out of seven MESC winners qualifying to the Eurovision final. Their best result came in 2013 when Gianluca finished in 8th place.
