Two-time Eurovision winner Loreen scores second Top 3 UK single as Eurovision 2023 acts including Käärijä, Alessandra Mele and Mae Muller all score Top 10 success!

The impact of hosting Eurovision 2023 in Liverpool on behalf of Ukraine has been felt on the Official UK Singles Chart announced today, with Loreen leading the contest’s attack on the UK singles charts.

Having already broken the record of becoming the first woman to win Eurovision twice, bursting in at #2 on the chart, winner Loreen has scored her second Top 10 hit on the UK singles chart with Tattoo surpassing the success of 2012’s Euphoria which peaked at #3, which until now was the previous highest position for a non-UK Eurovision song since 1987 when Johnny Logan’s Hold Me Now hit the UK #2 spot.

Eurovision 2023 became a two-horse race between Jury winner Loreen, and Finland’s Käärijä who won the public vote with his song Cha Cha Cha, ultimately giving him 2nd place overall. Käärijä (real name Jere Pöyhönen) will no doubt be leading a Cha Cha Cha Conga line at the news that his song has now become a UK Top 10 hit landing at #6!

Mae Muller has finally found Top 10 success with her song ‘I Wrote A Song’ which lands at #9 on the Official singles chart, which will be some consolation in exchange for her disappointing result in Liverpool, where she came second from bottom in 25th place with 14 points. This is the second consecutive year that the UK’s Eurovision entry has peaked inside the Top 10 of the UK singles charts, with Sam Ryder scoring a number 2 hit with SPACEMAN in 2022. Whilst a second placing and being the host nation will have had some impact on the chart placings of these songs, it does go some way to show that the current approach by TAP and BBC can produce hit songs and turn around the UK’s credibility at the contest, and will hopefully encourage more artists to engage with the possibility of representing the UK at Eurovision in the future.

Norway’s Alessandra Mele scores her first UK hit single, landing in the Top 10 at #10! Alessandra’s song has become a viral TikTok hit, and can possibly repeat the success of Rosa Linn‘s SNAP! which became a worldwide hit following its TikTok virality! Alessandra scored 216 points in the televote at Eurovision 2023 propelling her to 5th place in the contest, and now the 20 year old can add a UK Top 10 single to her list of achievements.

Further down in the placings, we have also seen new entries in the UK singles chart for acts such as Sam Ryder with his new song Mountain (performed in the interval of the Grand Final), Noa Kirel (Israel), Teya & Salena (Austria), Blanka (Poland) and Voyager (Australia):

2: 🇸🇪 Loreen – Tattoo

6: 🇫🇮 Käärijä – Cha Cha Cha

9: 🇬🇧 Mae Muller – I Wrote A Song

10: 🇳🇴 Alessandra – Queen of Kings

35: 🇬🇧 Sam Ryder – Mountain

45: 🇮🇱 – Noa Kirel – Unicorn

48: 🇦🇹 – Teya & Salena – Who The Hell Is Edgar?

79: 🇦🇺 Voyager – Promise

92: 🇨🇾 Andrew Lambrou – Break A Broken Heart

94: 🇫🇷 La Zarra – Évidement

95: 🇺🇦 TVORCHI – Heart of Steel

In total, 12 participating songs from Eurovision 2023 have made the Official UK Charts, showing that Eurovision really has been taken to the hearts of the UK population, and that the attitude truly is changing towards Eurovision in this year’s host nation.
